Khumbhakarna

measurements: 59,5x36,5x2,5 cm
weight: 1525 gr

The scene could show the fight against Khumbhakarna, brother of Ravana. However, as the male character on the left has not yet been clearly identified, there is still no clarity about the meaning.
The wall panel impresses with the high quality of its details and lines. The two-dimensional photo cannot depict the curved lines in depth, especially in the feet and hands of the figures. Compared to other wall panels I know of, however, this is worth emphasizing, especially as the relief is low overall and the background layer is barely a few millimetres thick. The carver therefore does not have much scope to create spatial depth.
Are wall panels of this quality still produced today?
Unfortunately, there is no detailed information on the age of the carving or the circumstances under which it came to be here. This is a pity, especially for such a beautiful piece, as history gives things additional character.
